Pray and not give up

I picked up a copy of 'Daily Bread - Words for Life' (which is a Bible guide for every day devotions, also available online at www.dailybread.org.uk ) this morning from Christ Church and when I arrived home later in the day took time out to read and ponder todays bible reading and the main verse..The guide for each day is split into four sections.. Prepare, Read, Explore, Respond.

Prepare challenged the reader (me) to bring your hopes and plans before the Lord.  I scribbled a few thoughts on the page of issues that have been circling around and around in my mind and have been on my heart for a few months now and it felt good to actually write them down - somehow that made them seem more real.

Read an opportunity to quietly read the selected Bible passage - Luke 18:1-8 and to ponder on the main verse Luke 18:1 Then Jesus told his disciples a parable to show them that they should always pray and not give up

Explore The Bible reading was a story about a widow who despite not having anyone to fight her corner did not give up and kept pestering the judge to deal with her cause... because as the guide says..she was sure of two things: first, that her cause was just; and second, that the judge was her only hope

Respond again challenged the reader (me) by saying.. are there things you have given up praying for, either because you have lost your passion for the cause, or because you have stopped believing that God is willing and able to answeer?  Bring those things before the Lord again today.  I revisited the list I had written under prepare and prayed for those issues as well as other situations and prayed for guidance.
