If I knew you were comin'

If I knew you were comin' I'd've baked a cake, baked a cake, baked a cake
If I knew you were comin' I'd've baked a cake
Howdya do, howdya do, howdya do?

The Theme and song for last Thursday’s C.A.M.E.O.  (Come And Meet Each Other) group at Thames View Lodge sheltered housing complex in Barking.  It was our ‘end of term’ service before we recommence again in September and Sheila, true to form, baked a lot of cakes for the evening.

I enjoy taking the service and the residents are so ‘full of life’ and love a good banter.  I quote the new warden, who came to the service for the 1st time last Thursday, when she said to me afterwards ‘That was certainly interactive and I am amazed as to how vocal they are with you’.  As she said the words she gave me that look that said ‘and you’re alright with that?’  Of course I am, I too, love a good, wholesome, fun banter it gets the heart, mind, soul, thoughts, energy flowing and you only have to see the smile and laughter lines on the faces of my dear folk to see that they enjoy it too.

Thank you to my plurk friends (www.plurk.com) who gave me the names of their favourite cakes and links to websites.  I shared these with the group and soon there were memories flooding the room of cakes they or their mothers/fathers/grandmothers had baked and the smells, sounds, touch that were associated with those memorable occasions.

Although we have fun, laughter, a good banter there is a also space for quietness and reflection as we share a time of prayer together, read from the scriptures and continue to uphold in each other in our thoughts and prayers.

The highlight for me was from Lilly the other week who said to me ‘Judy I’ve never been a church goer but Thursday evenings is now my church’
